But what is blackcurrant pepper? It's a spice made from powdered blackcurrant buds. The buds used in this way do not have the sweet taste of blackcurrants, but add a little “pepperiness” while retaining the slight acidity of the blackcurrant.

This spice, with its woody, floral notes, enhances the “round” taste of the (very) large pieces of figs for a unique, addictive recipe.
